The Front Seat

We removed the front seat, installed new springs and a new connecting wire for the seat adjustment control. We also oiled the runners. I washed the seat cover, but my mom put it in the dryer which ripped the mounting straps to shreds. I therefore applied a new layer of duct tape to the rips and tears and got a "super stretch velour" seat cover from PepBoys.

Instrumentation

We removed an old plastic box from under the dash and installed oil pressure, temperature, and voltage gauges in it's place. We also installed a tachometer on the top of the dash and ran the wires through the old speaker grille in the center. We wired all of these up to the dash lighting, and installed a few new light bulbs in the dash.

Ammenities

A round metal side view mirror and a non-broken rear view mirror mount were acquired from a local junk yard, along with a few new door and window handles and a new driver side armrest. We opened up the door panels to oil and grease the latch and lock mechanisms. A tear along the entire length of a seam in the headliner was profesionally repaired using only five hangers and a pair of beefy wire cutters. The car has a brand new windshield, installed by Kelsey, the previous owner.

The Shifter

Instead of wasting money on a new steering column, we simply removed the shifter from the side of the old one. Tom did a killer job of cutting a hole in the floor for the new shifter. He installed a "shifter hump," which is a piece of sheet metal that sort of extends the transmission hump to the left so you don't have to use a shifter boot the size of Rhode Island.

Finishing Touches

After fixing all the little annoying problems and installing all of this great new stuff, we finished the remodeling off by vacuming the whole carpet and washing the windows.
