[447] A family story, told to me by Grace Spencer, is that Francis Wheatley died outside and was eaten by wolves. Grace did not know any details about how he died or how he was found. She also said that he had come from St. Mary's County, Maryland. He had three sisters there and when they died they left an inheritance for his daughter, Martha Ann. Grace said that Martha did not receive the inheritance because she did not respond to notification because she could not read.
