Clevenger  Connections

Genealogy : Ancestors and Descendants

The object of this homepage is to help people interact with others researching the same line and to exchange information of the various lines of the Clevengers. In 1980 George Griffith published his book CLEVENGER Pioneers & Descendants. This was before computers had made their impact on genealogy and since that time a lot of information has become easily available to the avid researcher.

My long range project is to bring George Griffiths's book  up-to-date. So far two books have been published. Then I was interrupted by being able to obtain a download of the vital records of Brown County, IN from the Health Department there. This resulted in two books published by the Brown County Public Library which contained more that seventeen thousand records. This was followed by the publication of the 1870 Brown County, IN census record. This would have been a rather simple task except that the unnumbered sheets for Van Buren Township apparently were left in a stack on a table and were blown off by the wind. The pages must have been gathered up without checking their sequence and were filmed in this helter skelter order. As a result children at the top of one page some times did not belong to the family on the preceding page. It took quite an effort to figure out a reasonable order for the microfilmed pages.

The current research is concentrated on the Clevengers who originated in Tennessee - mostly from Cocke Co, McMinn Co, and Meigs Co - and who either stayed in Tennessee or went west.  At present we are collecting material on:

The Clevengers in eastern Tennessee in 1800 and their descendants,

The West Virginia Cleavengers and their descendants,

Edward Clevenger of Greene County, Pennsylvania and his descendants.

Clevengers in Southwestern Ohio and their descendants.
