ESMS DRESS CODE
Students are expected to dress moderately in a manner conducive to leaning. Any dress, grooming, or outer-wear which is deemed disruptive to the school environment is not permitted. The following guidelines will help make students and parents aware of specific infractions of the ESMS dress code. Students not in compliance with these guidelines will be given a change of clothing from the office and will return to class until a satisfactory garment can be brought from home. Inability to follow these guidelines will result in consequences from the insubordination schedule of the ESMS Discipline Policy.
- Shoes must be worn at all times on school property.
- Tank top shirts that hang below the armpit are not allowed unless worn over a T-shirt.
- Spaghetti strap or narrow tank tops are not allowed unless worn under a shirt that covers the shoulder.
- Sunglasses, hats, and any head attire are to be removed upon entering the school and may not be carried to class.
- Coats and jackets must be taken to the students' lockers immediately upon entering the building and may not be worn during the school day. Students may take them to last period with teacher permission. Students who find the school climate cold should keep a sweatshirt, cardigan sweater, or a flannel sweatshirt at school.
- Book bags and duffel bags must be taken to the students' lockers immediately upon entering the building and may not be used during the school day. Students may take them to last period with teacher permission.
- Clothing with tobacco, drug, or alcohol symbols and garments displaying obscene, suggestive, or disruptive messages will not be allowed.
- Apparel which can be interpreted as being gang-affiliated is not permitted.
- Shirts that expose the midriff are not allowed.
- Combs and picks are not to be worn m the hair.
- Shorts and skirts must be of fingertip length. Boxer shorts and biker shorts are not permitted as outerwear.
- Sagging pants are not to be worn. Pants and shorts must be worn up around the waist.
- Clothing with tears or holes deemed inappropriate is not allowed.
- Dress that could damage school property is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, wallet chains, cleats, steel-studded clothing, and other chains.
- Cellular phones, beepers, and laser lights are not allowed. If these items are brought to school, they will be returned to the student's parent or guardian.
